Michigan State Football: New staff signals bright future in East Lansing
Michigan State football has been through a wild February. Luckily, it responded fast and was able to put together a new solid staff for the 2020 season.
February was a wild month for Spartan fans. Mark Dantonio retiring, Mel Tucker arriving and all the surprises and thrills along the way.
For Michigan State fans it’s a time to be excited. Forget what you hear from any other fanbase or media source, this hire is gold for Michigan State and the hope and motivation needed to restore the program is here. I’m sure you will hear “Michigan State overpaid” or “Tucker couldn’t win at Colorado” but facts are facts, Tucker actually made Colorado better in almost every way.
Tucker’s resume speaks for itself.
Let’s give Michigan State credit, though, they made a choice to play with the big dogs and jump in the deep end. College football is about evolution and spending money to evolve is a must. The money pool given to Tucker brought in one of the best and complete coaching staff Michigan State has seen in years. The Spartans were gifted with familiar household names like Harlon Barnett and Courtney Hawkins while also adding brand new names with legitimate backgrounds.
With Michigan State adding their final coach with Scottie Hazelton, here is the complete Spartan coaching staff:
- Head Coach: Mel Tucker
- Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks: Jay Johnson
- Running Backs Coach: William Peagler
- Offensive Line: Chris Kapilovic
- Wide Receivers: Courtney Hawkins
- Tight Ends: Ted Gilmore
- Defensive Coordinator: Scottie Hazelton
- Defensive Backs: Harlon Barnett
- Defensive Line: Ron Burton
- Special Teams: Ross Els
- Unknown (likely Linebackers Coach): Mike Tressel
With the staff finally complete, Spartan fans can brace for the 2020 season. In my opinion, Michigan State did an amazing job considering the timing. The Spartans are complete and ready to start building a scheme for the future.
The excitement is there and Michigan State did right by the fans and opened up the money pool. Now let’s see how the Spartans use it from now on. Michigan State did their part, now its time for fans to be patient and let the seed grow.
