Michigan State football has an average recruiting class yet again under Mark Dantonio, but there are some guys who could surprise in 2020.

National Signing Day is upon us and there won’t be much drama this time around because the Spartans haven’t really gotten into any recruitments late — other than Ennis Rakestraw but he’s already narrowed his list and left Michigan State off.

The Spartans are just looking to hold on to Jordon Simmons who committed but didn’t sign in the early period and who is coming off an official visit recently.

There are a number of incoming freshmen who will out-play their rankings in 2020 and beyond and Michigan State has a few diamonds in the rough.

Who’ll surprise in 2020 and beyond?

One of the 2020 class signees who doesn’t get nearly enough love is Montorie Foster and I believe he could be one of the best receivers on the team in a couple of years but he could also be a contributor as a freshman.

Foster is only ranked the No. 1,133 in the class as well as the 161st receiver, per 247Sports. He may not be as lauded as a Ricky White, Ian Stewart or Terry Lockett, but his basketball background makes him a prime candidate to see the field early on. Cody White was a basketball player as well and his athleticism was evident from day one. We could see the same from Foster.

What makes him even more intriguing is that he hasn’t been playing football for all that long as he dedicated his first couple of high school years to basketball but has shown the ability to star as a receiver on the gridiron and that just shows his potential. He will be needed with White and Darrell Stewart Jr. leaving.
