Michigan State basketball returns home for a bout with Northwestern on Wednesday night. Can the Spartans remain focused?

Playing Northwestern back in December, Michigan State got an early taste of Big Ten play on the road and nearly blew a big lead in Evanston to a lower-tier Wildcat squad.

Fast forward to Jan. 29 and the Wildcats are in last place in the Big Ten while the Spartans are tied for first. Northwestern has just one conference win this season and the Spartans are 7-2 and duking it out with Illinois atop the standings.

Northwestern may sit in last place, but this team continues to get better and Tom Izzo admitted that this won’t be a walk in the park.

Sure, it’s a game Michigan State should win comfortably, but if the Spartans take the Wildcats lightly, it could get interesting on Wednesday night. They just have to handle their business like they did at Minnesota and move on.

Can the Spartans topple the Wildcats for a second time this year?
