Michigan State Basketball: 3 bold predictions for road battle at Minnesota
1. Michigan State wins a tough one
No win on the road in the Big Ten comes easy and that’s why this league is both considered the deepest and has the lowest road win percentage of any major conference in college basketball.
The Spartans are just 1-2 on the road in conference play, losing to Purdue in blowout fashion and Indiana in a heartbreaker that they should have won on Thursday night. Let’s not dive too deep into the past here and look more at this matchup.
Minnesota hasn’t lost a home game in conference play yet this season, going 4-0, but Michigan State is hungry for a road victory. Tom Izzo has talked about his team needing a sense of urgency and to get up for games against lesser opponents because “Michigan State is a somebody” and they get up for the Spartans.
No more slow start here, either. The Spartans will get hot early on and build an early lead but it will get evened out by halftime.
The Gophers will take a halftime lead and then extend it slightly in the second before another Spartan comeback and they’ll hold on to win a tight one.
Michigan State improves to 2-2 on the road in the Big Ten and 7-2 in conference play after a monster win at Williams Arena.
