Michigan State football landed its 21st commitment in the 2020 class with three-star defensive end Jasiyah Robinson from Ohio.

National Signing Day is approaching and Mark Dantonio is aiming to close strong with more commitments from some underrated, unsigned players.

On Wednesday, the Spartans landed a guy who could help on the defensive side of the ball, although maybe not immediately. He had a breakout senior season but is still one of the lower-rated commitments in the Spartans’ class, but he brings an ability to rush the passer, recording 15 sacks in 2019.

Robinson is listed as the No. 1,779 prospect and 98th-best strong-side defensive end and he is considered more of a raw prospect with potential than anything. His offer sheet isn’t elite, by any means, but Dantonio is hoping that he found yet another diamond in the rough.

Showing a nice burst through the line, Robinson also has a couple of swim moves that helped him at the high school level but could be cleaned up a bit in East Lansing. He has a nice 6-foot-3, 222-pound frame that is tough to contain and once he beats the offensive linemen with his first step, he’s almost impossible to keep out of the backfield.

The Spartans could use more pass rushers with Kenny Willekes graduating and Jacub Panasiuk entering his senior year. But he’s not limited to just defensive end as he has the body, and potential, to play linebacker and be a blitz package specialist.

Defense was a letdown for the Spartans in 2019 and adding more potential diamonds in the rough who can get after the quarterback is a good start to getting back on track.
