The 2019 season is officially in the books and there were some major studs and duds for Michigan State football. Who impressed and who disappointed?

Michigan State’s 2019 season didn’t go nearly as planned. The Spartans were hoping for Big Ten title contention and instead they got mollywhopped by Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan on their way to a 6-6 regular season.

That disappointing regular season led to a berth in the Pinstripe Bowl where Michigan State was able to eke out a 27-21 victory over Wake Forest which had a red-hot start to the year.

Finishing the season with a 7-6 record wasn’t what the coaching staff had envisioned, especially Mark Dantonio who shuffled up his coaching staff to make up for the deficiencies that were evident last season. While the offense looked improved from a season ago, the defense took a step back which was surprising because everyone returned.

Brad Salem called a good game for most of the season as the offense went from non-existent under Dave Warner to serviceable. He cleaned up the mess a bit and set himself up for an even better 2020 season.

There were plenty of duds and studs that don’t pertain to the coaching staff this season. What does this mean? Some players exceeded expectations while others were disappointing.

Who were the biggest studs and duds for Michigan State this season?
