With 2019 being a disaster for Michigan State football, how will the team rebuild the offensive line? The talent is all there, believe it or not.

The Michigan State offensive line has struggled for the last 3-4 years. For Spartan fans, this specific topic has been a hopeless case.

In recent years, injuries have been the biggest issue. In reality, though, Michigan State is actually seemingly doing better with the new guys they are bringing in.

Now I firmly believe that Michigan State should find a new offensive line coach. If that can happen, with the talent the Spartans have brought and are bringing in, I truly believe the ceiling could be higher than we think for this position group.

Current Names

The main rotation of veteran linemen for the Spartans didn’t work out well but over the last few weeks, Michigan State found three freshmen that have come in and already shown significant production.

Nick Samac, Devontae Dobbs and J.D. Duplain came in and showed a bright future they could have at Michigan State. Even while being young and not firmly developed into the offense, they showed flashes of good blocking and ability to open holes for the running backs.

A few other experienced names currently on the roster are Matt Allen, Jordan Reid, Blake Bueter and Matt Carrick. If Michigan State is able to bring back Kevin Jarvis and even Cole Chewins, there could already be a solid mix of experience and the new generation of linemen.

New Names

Now if all goes planned and no one de-commits, Michigan State brings in an interesting group of talent. The first name is Dallas Fincher. He received offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Miami. To me, that means he is considered a high-level talent with a great ceiling.

Another name I’m curious to see is Justin Stevens, the Canadian offensive lineman. I completely understand the concern with his star ranking but if Michigan State can help him gain weight and if he shows up early in spring, he may be a future name to watch out for — 6-foot-6 is hard to beat.

There are also new names on the roster who haven’t been seen yet. A few names i think will come along in the future are Jacob Isaia and James Ohonba who are extremely well sized and with all the time they’ve had to grow and learn there should be a few new names ready to burst out.

Like I said, though, this is a best-case scenario for Michigan State. They actually are not in a terrible spot with talent and have one more chance to show the country they can evolve.

The biggest question is how will Michigan State handle the offseason? Is a coaching change in this position needed or will Dantonio trust Bollman to try and fix the problems that have held the Spartans offense back? Time will tell, but this off-season is the most vital one yet.
