One of Mark Dantonio’s former All-American caliber players, Jerel Worthy, is calling for a change to the Michigan State football program.

It’s safe to say fans have had enough. Enough of the mediocrity and decline for the last three seasons. Enough falling short of expectations despite having more than enough talent to contend for titles. Enough losing games in embarrassing fashion.

Michigan State dropped another top-10 road game in Week 7, losing to Wisconsin. It was the fact that the Spartans lost to the Badgers that was disappointing and stirred up plenty of conversation about a new direction for the program, but the way the team lost. There seemed to be no fight, no passion and no emotion. The Spartans seemed lifeless when the score was 17-0.

After that, Wisconsin scored 21 straight points while Michigan State remained scoreless, losing 38-0.

Following the game, fans went off, and for good reason. The team didn’t look like it wanted to be there, and the coaching staff seemed defeated.

Even former players, such as Jerel Worthy, sounded off.

You won’t see anyone arguing with this post because, well, he’s spot-on. Michigan State needs to look itself in the mirror and realize that not making serious changes cost this team a chance at greatness. He’s referring to shuffling the coaching staff around instead of bringing in new blood. It’s a common sentiment from around the fanbase and even though Brad Salem has done a solid job this season, Saturday was one of the worst efforts on both sides of the ball in years.

Worthy played for Mark Dantonio and the two have a relationship to this day as he’s been back to visit for games on multiple occasion. But he is being real here and stating that Dantonio may be surrounding himself with guys who should have jobs at smaller programs.

Dantonio might be protecting his friends instead of doing what’s best for the program and that’s never been more evident than on Saturday in the 38-0 embarrassment at Wisconsin.

Worthy thinks the program needs change, and he’s right.
