Both teams are trending in opposite directions, but that doesn’t make Saturday’s Michigan State vs Indiana game any less intriguing.

With win No. 110 in his back pocket, Mark Dantonio can now move forward without the proverbial monkey on his back.

The Spartans floundered an opportunity to get him the school record victory against Arizona State the week before (a coaching staff gaffe) but they went to Northwestern and recorded it there. He is happy to achieve such an honor, but everyone knows he’s not about personal accolades — he was more excited about a 1-0 start to Big Ten play.

Now he has a chance to get the Spartans to 2-0 with a tough Indiana team coming to town, also boasting a 3-1 record. The Hoosiers, though, are 0-1 in conference play after losing 51-10 to Ohio State a couple of weeks ago.

Michigan State needs to prove that it is, in fact, a contender in the Big Ten this season by handling the Hoosiers the way it should.

The offense must keep humming along and the defense must remain its stingy self in order to avoid a letdown at home with Ohio State looming in Week 6.
