Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio revealed Kevin Jarvis will be out 6-7 weeks with a knee injury. It’s time for Devontae Dobbs to get a shot.

Say goodbye to an injury-free 2019 season because Michigan State’s offensive line seems to be getting the worst news every week.

Cole Chewins hasn’t played yet this season and isn’t on the depth chart for Week 4, so it looks like he’ll be out yet again. AJ Arcuri is also unlisted on the depth chart as Tyler Higby is the starting left tackle. Yes, the same interior offensive linemen who has had his fair share of struggles at guard and center over the past two seasons will be playing at the most important spot.

Luke Campbell will be starting at left guard, Matt Allen at center, Matt Carrick at right guard and Jordan Reid at right tackle. Why does it seem like there are people missing? It’s because Kevin Jarvis suffered an injury against Arizona State and will be out 6-7 weeks, per Mark Dantonio.

But this could, and should, open the door for Devontae Dobbs to get his shot at left tackle and some other young guns, too, could see extended action.

Dobbs had a strong fall camp and many believed he was making progress to burning that redshirt and making a name for himself on the offensive line. That looks to be closer to happening after the Jarvis injury as he’s listed as the backup left tackle.

Being listed as No. 2 on the depth chart is a major development, seeing as that could change come game day and he could find himself starting. The only reason he’s not the starter right now is because Higby has the experience factor. Going on the road to start against Northwestern might be overwhelming for a true freshman lineman, especially at left tackle, but Dobbs could soon be getting his shot.

We’ll see plenty of Dobbs on Saturday, especially if Higby struggles, as the future could be now. Add in the fact that JD Duplain, Nick Samac and Jacob Isaia are all on the two-deep and the Spartans are nearing a youth movement in the trenches due to injuries.
