Michigan State football suffered a devastating home loss against Arizona State on Saturday evening. Which position group earned the highest grade?

Can we just forget this game ever happened? Michigan State fans are too busy stewing in the loss to move on, and rightly so.

The Spartans were bad, I mean truly just awful, when it came to capitalizing on deep drives into Arizona State territory. They moved the ball to the tune of over 400 yards, but they couldn’t seem to finish off those drives. Brian Lewerke looked solid and so did Darrell Stewart Jr. and Elijah Collins, but there was no sense of urgency to reach the end zone.

In fact, it took until the fourth quarter to put points on the board which is just unacceptable at home against an average Pac-12 team. The Sun Devils won’t be winning any division or conference titles tis season, but they just seem to have the Spartans’ number.

For the second straight year, the Spartans were the better team for three-plus quarters but allowed the Sun Devils to hang around for too long which led to a late score to put the game away.

Michigan State did have a chance to send the game to overtime, and it looked like it did with a game-tying field goal by Matt Coghlin with about six seconds left, but it was flagged for 12 men on the field and he ended up missing the 47-yard ensuing attempt.

Let’s just rip off the band-aid and get to the passing, and failing, grades from Saturday.
