Tom Izzo had been known as archaic for years by certain fans, but the Michigan State basketball coach has been voted toughest to prepare for.

Who is the toughest coach for which to prepare in college basketball? According to his peers, it’s Michigan State’s Tom Izzo.

CBS Sports ran its Candid Coaches article yet again and the peers of Izzo are raving about his preparation and unpredictability. According to the poll, Izzo got 16 percent of votes, which was ahead of Tony Bennett at 14 percent and Chris Beard at 11 percent — all three went to the Final Four in 2018-19 and Bennett won it all over Beard.

It’s surprising to see these names at the top while Mike Krzyzewski only received four percent and guys like John Calipari, Bill Self and Roy Williams weren’t listed.

The quotes were also interesting, stating that Izzo always has his players prepared and they know how to execute offensively. The Spartans’ physical style of play has opposing coaches sweating on a regular basis and that might set him apart.

Izzo has made eight Final Fours and won a national title for a reason and it’s because he’s always switching things up and making life difficult for opposing coaches — that makes him that much more dangerous during NCAA Tournament time when teams only have a few days to prepare.

Michigan State enters the 2019-20 season as the projected No. 1 team in the country and if Izzo continues his tough game plans, the Spartans may just be the favorite to win it all by the end of the year.
