Luke Fulton is entering his first year in East Lansing but he has a bright future ahead for Michigan State football. When will he get his shot?

Landing a player from Ohio powerhouse Cardinal Mooney is a huge positive for any college football program. So when Luke Fulton signed with Michigan State’s 2019 class, Mark Dantonio knew he was getting a well-coached player with elite potential.

Early in the process, he wasn’t the highest-rated recruit, but rose to four-star status in 247Sports’ rankings as the No. 293 player in the country and the 20th-best inside linebacker.

Fulton has only been on campus for a couple of months, but the excitement level surrounding the true freshman is certainly real. He has the look of a Spartan middle linebacker and his film speaks for itself. He’s aggressive, athletic and has great size at 6-2, 230 pounds but there’s a good chance he sees action in four games or less in 2019, barring an injury, and maintains his redshirt.

Joe Bachie is entering his senior season, so when he graduates, the Spartans will need a replacement for him at middle linebacker. Could it be Fulton or will he move to the outside?

The true freshman certainly has the look of a future star in the middle, but the Spartans have been working redshirt freshman Ed Warinner at the position to back Bachie up along with Tyriq Thompson. Though that’s the case, don’t be surprised to see Fulton push for the starting job with Warinner next offseason.

While Michigan State has plenty of depth in the experienced category, it’s actually surprising to see some potentially elite prospects at No. 3 or No. 4 on the depth chart at certain positions.
