Michigan State Football: Jordan Reid could be surprise star in 2019
Former Cass Tech star Jordan Reid has worked his way into Michigan State football’s starting lineup and faces a major opportunity in 2019.
The rise of Jordan Reid in East Lansing has been quite rapid. He saw action in all 13 games as a true freshman and then started all 13 games for Michigan State in 2018 at right tackle.
To top it all off, he was the recipient of the team’s most outstanding underclassman lineman award, which didn’t have too many contenders, but he still played well enough to earn some recognition from the coaching staff.
Entering his third year with the program, Reid is the projected starter at right tackle, taking over the job once held by Luke Campbell until he moved to the interior. He’s added some weight and is now up to 6-4, 305 pounds which makes him a tougher lineman to overpower. He just needs to work on his footwork and hands and he’ll be one of those surprise stars for the Spartans.
The offensive line has been atrocious over the past year. There didn’t seem to be any end of the lackluster play in sight, but with everyone getting healthy and adding weight, and Jim Bollman taking over, it seems like the only way to go from here is up.
Reid, however, seems to be one of those forgotten players despite being one of the most consistent performers a year ago. Could he be battling for a starting job with the likes of AJ Arcuri? Potentially, but he has the experience and potential to secure the No. 1 spot at right tackle for 2019.
Don’t be surprised if Reid turns things around for the Spartan offensive line and even earns some All-Big Ten honors during his junior season.
