Freshman offensive lineman Spencer Brown may redshirt in 2019, but there’s no denying his potential with Michigan State football.

The second Spencer Brown committed to Michigan State, he set off a domino effect for the 2019 recruiting class. He committed and then a string of in-state prospects decided to give their pledges to the green and white.

Brown looked like one of those leaders that every class seems to have (Darius Snow is that in 2020) and they usually grow into solid players in East Lansing as well.

The three-star offensive tackle from Walled Lake, Mich., enrolled in January and learned the ropes this spring. He also put on some solid weight, going from 6-6 and 295 pounds all the way up to 326 pounds, per Michigan State’s official roster.

That weight makes him even more of a threat to become a star in East Lansing. No, he’s not going to be good just because he weighs over 320 pounds, but rather he already had plenty of potential and now he has a whole semester under his belt. He’s bigger than most linemen for the Spartans and he still has plenty of room to grow as a player.

Potential was one thing that stood out for him while watching his high school highlights. He’s a big kid with quick feet but he hasn’t even scratched the surface yet. Michigan State is going to need someone like him in the years to come with the offensive line losing some key members over the next two seasons to graduation.

The future is bright with the former three-star and early enrollee adding depth to the tackle position and he might even see some action in 2019 while still retaining his redshirt.
