Michigan State Football: Addition of Jalen Hunt bolsters defensive line
Michigan State football made a big late addition of former Iowa signee Jalen Hunt from Belleville as part of the defensive line.
One school’s loss is another’s big-time gain. Such is the case with former three-star defensive end Jalen Hunt who had signed with Iowa out of Belleville (Mich.) High School in the 2019 class.
The news, broken by recruiting expert Allen Trieu, is a major positive for the Spartans, not just for the upcoming season, but in the years to come. While Michigan State is set up front in 2019 with an All-Big Ten-laden defensive line, Hunt could be a major piece to the puzzle in 2020 and beyond.
Michigan State needed added depth with Mike Panasiuk, Kenny Willekes and Raequan Williams set to graduate and head to the NFL after the season.
In case you don’t recall, Hunt was one of the top defensive line targets for Michigan State’s 2019 class but he picked the Iowa Hawkeyes. Now, he’ll be joining fellow Belleville stars Davion Williams (2018), Devontae Dobbs (2019) and Julian Barnett (2019).
Hunt was ranked the No. 717 player in the 2019 recruiting class, per 247Sports, as well as the 48th-best strong-side defensive end and 16th-best Michigan-based recruit.
Anyone worried about the depth on the defensive line moving forward, and even in 2019, should stop after learning this news. Hunt has great size at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds and has plenty of room to grow (or potential) which should be enticing for Michigan State fans and coaches.
This move could also ensure a guy like JD Duplain heads back to his natural position on the offensive line and bolsters that unit. This move has major implications for both sides of the ball.
