With the 2019 season right around the corner, what can we expect from Michigan State football? The Spartans are looking to turn things around.
It’s hard to believe the summer is almost over and the 2019 season is about three weeks away. It seems like just yesterday that the Spartans were struggling to score against Oregon in the Redbox Bowl on their way to a 7-6 loss.
That score happened to be Michigan State’s final record, too.
The season was nothing short of a disappointment for Michigan State coaches, players and fans as the team had returned essentially everyone from a 10-win season the year before. A seven-win campaign was probably worst-case scenario, but given how bad the offense was, it wasn’t all that shocking.
Brian Lewerke wasn’t healthy, the run game was non-existent, the offensive line was atrocious and injuries bit the Spartans hard. Oh yeah, and the play-calling was predictable, leading to Dave Warner’s demotion to quarterbacks coach this offseason and Brad Salem’s promotion.
Things have changed for the Spartans and expectations seem to be relatively high once again despite winning just seven games last year, and it’s because of that defense.
Michigan State will likely begin the season in the Top 25, but how will it end the year?
