Former Michigan State football star Tony Lippett has bounced around since leaving Miami but just signed a deal to join the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tony Lippett hasn’t had the smoothest transition from Big Ten Receiver of the Year to the NFL, but the former Michigan State star is getting another chance in 2019.

On Tuesday, Lippett, a converted cornerback, signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, joining former teammate in East Lansing Darqueze Dennard in the defensive backfield.

While Lippett’s career in the NFL was once promising with the Miami Dolphins, he suffered a torn Achilles back in 2017, ruining his chances to start in the defensive backfield in South Beach. Even some Florida-based writers raved about his potential and the bright future of Lippett.

Following his college career which ended with a Big Ten Receiver of the Year award, it seemed like it would take a massive meltdown for him not to see success, but it turned out to be a serious injury instead.

After being let go by the Dolphins, Lippett signed with the Giants in October of 2018 and re-signed in March of 2019, but was let go in late-July. It didn’t take long for him to get a look from the Bengals on July 30.

Will Lippett finally hang on to make the 53-man roster this fall? It’s possible if he can stay healthy and prove that his Achilles injury is a thing of the past, but he has a long, uphill battle ahead of him.

It will be fun to watch a potential defensive backfield of Dennard and Lippett if both can rise up the depth chart in 2019, assuming the latter makes the team.
