Michigan State Football: Aaron Burbridge retiring from NFL due to injuries
Former Michigan State football standout Aaron Burbridge is reportedly retiring from the NFL after just three seasons because of injury.
Just one season of live NFL action was all it took for Aaron Burbridge to realize that football was probably not going to be forever.
The former Big Ten Receiver of the Year and Michigan State standout started three games as a rookie in 2016 after being selected in the sixth round by the San Francisco 49ers. He ended the year with seven catches for 88 yards on 16 targets, and that’s all his career in the NFL would yield.
On Wednesday, Field Yates reported that Burbridge would be retiring from the NFL.
Broncos WR Aaron Burbridge, once a standout player at Michigan State, is retiring, per source. He entered the league as a 2016 sixth rounder of the 49ers, though injuries kept him off the field each of the last two seasons.

This is tough news for Michigan State fans who had high hopes for the former all-conference receiver who broke out in 2015 and became one of the best receivers in the nation.
Burbridge became popular with fans during the Spartans’ College Football Playoff season, catching 85 passes for 1,258 yards and seven touchdowns as one of the most sure-handed receivers in Michigan State history.

It’s safe to say Burbridge has been missed in Michigan State’s offense over the past few years and those who were excited to watch him grow in the NFL are now looking for a new favorite Spartan receiver to root for — enter, Felton Davis III.

Burbridge graduated from Michigan State so luckily he has a fallback option, but it’s sad to see injuries ruin a once-promising career.
