This one’s truly a no-brainer. Michigan State needs a lot from the quarterback position this season if it’s going to be successful and after the disappointing year Brian Lewerke had in 2018, he has to prove that he’s more like the guy from 2017.

Lewerke passed for 2,040 yards and eight touchdowns with 11 interceptions which was a far cry from his sophomore season when he reached 2,793 yards and 20 touchdowns with only seven picks and he was slightly more accurate. Nothing could go right for him in 2018 and that led to people jumping right off the bandwagon.

After the spring game, it’s fair to say he’s on the upward trend, but he still has plenty to prove if he wants to be talked about as one of the Big Ten’s best quarterbacks.

There’s plenty of doubt surrounding him and his ability to lead the offense, but he needs to squash that with a solid 2019 season — especially as more of a dual-threat quarterback than he was in an injury-plagued 2018. It’s time to put up or shut up.
