Michigan State Football: Explosive athlete, WMU transfer Jayden Reed commits
After a visit to East Lansing, explosive athlete Jayden Reed committed to Michigan State football on Thursday evening. What’s he bring to the table?
Well, that didn’t take long. Right after we speculated that Jayden Reed could be a solid fit for Michigan State’s offense in 2020, after sitting out a year due to transfer rules, the Western Michigan transfer committed to the green and white.
Word on the street was that he took an unofficial visit to East Lansing on Wednesday and shortly after, he must have given his pledge to Mark Dantonio and the Spartans’ staff, according to a report from Sean Bock of 247Sports.
This is a big recruiting win for the Spartans as they could use all the weapons and explosive play-making on the offensive side of the ball that they can get. He finished his freshman season with 56 catches for 797 yards and eight touchdowns, showing that he can play at a high level.
Reed stands 6-foot-0 and weighs about 175 pounds. He’s not the biggest target, but his explosiveness sets him apart. He can be a home-run threat in the receiving corps and he also has experience in the return game.
Clearly, the former Western Michigan star is excited about his new school, telling Twitter “I’m Home” on Thursday.
This kid looks good in the all-white uniform and he has an opportunity to be a star in East Lansing for years to come — he’ll have three years of eligibility left after sitting out in 2019.
Reed also has connections to Michigan State as the Illinois-native is the former teammate of 2019 quarterback signee Payton Thorne and friends of basketball freshman Malik Hall. He felt at home in East Lansing and this move is going to benefit both sides in a big way.
