Michigan State Basketball: 5 bold predictions for 2019 Big Ten Tournament
2. Cassius Winston records two double-doubles
Is this truly a bold prediction? After seeing Cassius Winston play all season and earn the Big Ten Player of the Year award, not necessarily, but he’s going to put together two double-doubles in three games.
For a point guard, earning a double-double isn’t the easiest feat because the second “double” is usually assists and that’s based on how your teammates execute after getting open looks. If your teammates aren’t making their shots, the point guard won’t get his assists.
Luckily, Winston has been a master at passing guys open or finding players close to the basket for high-percentage looks.
Winston will score 17 points with 11 assists against Ohio State to give the Spartans a nice quarterfinal win before facing Wisconsin who will have just overcome a thriller against tourney Cinderella Nebraska. The Spartan point guard will give Michigan State its fifth win over the Badgers in the past two seasons with 20 points and 10 assists.
Winston will come just short of a double-double in the title game, scoring 15 with six assists, but overall it’ll be a heck of a three-game run.
