Junior. KYLE AHRENS. C-. . G

To say the bench was thin on Wednesday would be an understatement as Kyle Ahrens received the most minutes with 20 and there was only one other player who finished with more than two.

Ahrens didn’t have his best game, either. He was beaten on the defensive end multiple times as he struggled to stay with his man in the first half and he didn’t score a single basket, finishing 0-for-3 from the field, although he looked to have a nice and-one, but it was ruled a charge.

To make matters worse, he fell awkwardly late in the second half and may have tweaked his back, so there’s a chance he could be out on Sunday as he couldn’t return to the game.

C. . F. Freshman. THOMAS KITHIER

Thomas Kithier was the only other bench player for the Spartans to record more than two minutes, finishing with 10, and he was also the lone reserve to score. He had just two points and a rebound in 10 minutes, so it’s hard to say he didn’t have a good game.

The freshman big man picked up two fouls, but one of them was smart as it took away an easy layup for Rutgers, but Tom Izzo clearly didn’t trust him against the huge lineup of the Scarlet Knights. He’s still getting his feet wet, so we could probably see plenty of him on Sunday against Michigan.
