Michigan State Football: What does Maverick Hanson bring to the table?
By Stephen Robb
Maverick Hanson was a last minute commit on early signing day. He could end up being a key future contributor on Michigan State football’s defensive line.
There were many articles written as National Signing Day was approaching about who the Spartans might be able to lure to the green and white. One player was on nobody’s list was Maverick Hanson, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound lineman from Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison High.
Hansen flipped on Signing Day from Central Michigan to Michigan State which was a fast decision because he was offered that morning.
Head coach Mark Dantonio had been thinking about offering him for a while and his gut told him that they needed this guy. When you watch his film, what you witness is a real nasty side from his play. He has a high motor and is the classic Dantonio recruit. He held only offers from MAC schools and Iowa State and has a workman type of attitude with a nasty streak.
Hansen played both sides of the pigskin at Farmington Hills Harrison. He uses leverage well and is explosive out of his stance. He will get good penetration and he’ll bring an attitude to the defensive line.
The three-star tackle is not necessarily fast, but a game speed quick. He has much natural strength and after some time in the weight at MSU he will pack on more muscle and should be a lot to handle for opposing offensive lines.
Maverick is one of those players who after a few years with the Spartans and developing a bit more will be ready to compete. He is another hidden gem that Dantonio mined.
