1. Michigan State may be the hottest team in the nation

Is there a team hotter than Michigan State right now? Before Michigan lost to Wisconsin last weekend and Virginia fell at Duke, those two would have earned that distinction, but Michigan State is playing absolutely bonkers right now.

The Spartans have won 13 straight games, are 9-0 in the Big Ten and have gone from 5-2 overall to 18-2 following a tough road loss to Louisville a couple of months ago — that seems like a distant memory at this point. This looks like a team that could certainly avenge both of its losses and beat just about anyone in college basketball.

Earlier in the season, I would have dubbed Duke “untouchable” and a team that Michigan State wouldn’t have a fighter’s chance to beat, but judging by how well the Spartans are playing, there’s not a team in college basketball that is seen as unbeatable for this squad.

The Spartans overcame an eight-point second-half road deficit in hostile Carver-Hawkeye Arena (a place that always gives MSU trouble) and turned it into a double-digit lead after a 24-2 run.

Michigan State won yet another Big Ten road game and has won two consecutive games against ranked conference foes. A win Sunday at Purdue would just about send AP voters into a frenzy.
