Michigan State football received a huge get when Devontae Dobbs signed during the early signing period. Could he have an immediate impact?

The Michigan State offensive line was a mash unit in 2018. It didn’t matter what combination of linemen that coach Mark Staten put on the field, they were unable to get the job done. Injuries mounted through the season, but it did appear that MSU would get everybody healthy and rested back for the Redbox Bowl.

However, from the get-go, the Spartan offensive line still did not look right on the field.

Five-star Devontae Dobbs is important because he not only meets a desperate need, but he is the key centerpiece to help Mark Dantonio run the pigskin. Dantonio made it clear that he was not going to change his philosophy because of their struggles.

For Dantonio to regain the momentum his program had after the 2015 season, Dobbs will be a key factor in enabling them to establish the run.

Also, Dobbs already  has something that MSU typically builds into its lineman, which is power. He is strong at the point of attack and he holds his blocks well.

Michigan State will get an offensive line commit and they will build up their body and teach them the techniques through their time so that when they are juniors or seniors, they are ready to contribute. However, Dobbs is already the complete package with a high ceiling.

ESPN had Dobbs as the No. 7 prospect overall with offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC and, yes, Michigan. He chose MSU because of the family atmosphere. Dobbs is a more polished lineman and he will get time on the field as a freshman. He may even be able to win a starting spot.
