Michigan State Football: What can we expect from 3-star RB Brandon Wright?
By Stephen Robb
Michigan State football’s run game, like the rest of the offense, was anemic this season. However, the backfield will be a bright spot with Brandon Wright.
Crowley Sullivan of Spartans Wire quoted Brandon Wright’s high school coach in calling him the “steal of the century.”
It’s true in the sense that Wright did not have much fanfare nor many stars next to his name out of high school but we will have to wait and see how his college career plays out before dubbing that claim the truth. At 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, he’s a load, yet for a back his size, he has that extra gear to pull away from defenders.
Connor Muldowney mentioned that he has “a little Le’Veon Bell in him.” He’s patient in waiting for the holes to open, but also has the power to break tackles. He is a player that defenders cannot just arm tackle. Also worth noting that his spin move resembles LJ Scott. Wright will be one of the bigger surprises for Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class.
MSU was disappointed in losing a player at running back like Aaron Young to Rutgers, however, Wright can be the bell-cow type of running back for the Spartans.
There’s a huge opening at the tailback position for the Spartans with Scott leaving for the NFL and questions still remain about whether Connor Heyward can be ‘the guy’ in the backfield. La’Darius Jefferson has the talent but is inexperienced.
Wright will get a long look in the early preseason and if he impresses like he is able to then he might be able to steal the starting running back spot.
