C-. . QB. Michigan State. QUARTEBACKS

Everyone expected a huge season for Brian Lewerke, but the junior quarterback suffered an injury early on and just didn’t look like the same quarterback from 2017.

In fact, he finished with 2,040 yards with eight touchdown passes and 11 picks. He couldn’t get anything going after the first couple weeks of the season and it all goes back to a hit he took against Arizona State in the first half which may have been that major injury that he fought through — although no one has pinpointed when he actually hurt that shoulder.

Lewerke showed flashes of his old self in the bowl game, but still finished with under 200 yards and had another pick. He needs an offseason to reset and hopefully his offensive line won’t send him running for his life in 2019.

Backup quarterback Rocky Lombardi also showed some flashes and he proved that he’s tough as nails, picking up a big win against Purdue in his first game as starter, filling in for an injured Lewerke. He finished the season with 738 yards, three touchdowns and three picks.

Not the best year for Michigan State quarterbacks, but a lot of it was due to a poor offensive line and injuries to the starter.
