1. Brian Lewerke, QB

Just as quickly as everyone praised Brian Lewerke and claimed that he could be Mark Dantonio’s best quarterback to date, they turned their backs on the young gunslinger after an injury.

Many overlooked the injury to Lewerke’s shoulder, which looked like it may have occurred during the Arizona State game when he suffered a big hit on an interception, and just claimed that he was “overrated” or “not the guy” everyone had expected coming into the season.

It wasn’t a fair criticism seeing as he was playing through the injury — which is on the coaches — and that led to some social media fire from fans and armchair coaches. They called out the junior quarterback for letting the team down and began rooting for the emergence of Rocky Lombardi.

Life isn’t fair, but Lewerke fought through the criticisms and is in line to finish the season on a high note, heading into his final year as a Spartan.

The talent is there, but he just needs a positive finish to the season like he had last year against Washington State. If there’s anyone on the team who needs a big showing in the Redbox Bowl after a rough season, it has to be Lewerke.
