Michigan State football closes out the regular season with Rutgers coming to East Lansing. Can the Spartans finally find the end zone?

Rutgers head coach Chris Ash has had a rough season. While his defense has played well, his offensive has only gone over twenty points once this season — though the Spartans offense has struggled almost as much.

Rutgers wants to control the clock and pound the rock. Star sophomore running back Raheem Blackshear, a former Spartan recruit, leads the team with over 500 yards rushing.

On offense, they have turned to freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski who has struggled this season throwing 18 interceptions — senior quarterback Giovanni Rescigno has struggled as well. While the offense has been anemic the defense has grown under Ash. The defense is led by senior tackling machines Trevor Morris and Deonte Roberts at the linebacker spot.

The defense against Penn State kept both Trace McSorley and Miles Sanders in check. The latter only managed 88 yards rushing and McSorley was unable to move the pigskin throw the air. Senior defensive back Isaiah Wharton had an interception against the Nittany Lions and  is one of the fierce cornerbacks that Rutgers has.

This is going to be a difficult game for MSU. Rutgers might be 1-10 but if it had a decent offense then there were plenty of winnable games on their schedule. Michigan State is going to have a tough time running or throwing the ball. The first team to seven points will win this game. Michigan State’s defense should be able to shut down the Scarlet Knights’ rushing attack.

Prediction: Rutgers 3, Michigan State 10
