3. Brian Lewerke has chance to raise confidence

If there was a defense that Brian Lewerke could rebound against to make himself feel better about the 2018 season, it’s Ohio State. It’s a chance for him to avenge last year’s loss where he couldn’t lead the Spartans to a single touchdown and was 18-of-36 through the air with two interceptions before giving way to Messiah deWeaver.

Lewerke is ‘healthy’ according to the coaching staff and will likely get the start against the Buckeyes on Saturday.

This could be a great thing or a disastrous decision. Either he’s healthy and he takes advantage of a struggling Ohio State secondary or he isn’t 100 percent and plays poorly like he did versus Michigan. If you listen to the coaching staff, it seems to be the former.

If Lewerke is healthy and back to his old self — a big ‘if’ — he will gain some confidence back against the No. 10 team in the country. All he has to do is start off by hitting some short routes against a vulnerable Buckeye secondary.

Ohio State’s secondary is prone to getting burned, so look for Lewerke to get some of that confidence back and play well.
