Want to know what the enemy thinks? We conducted a Q&A with Ohio State writer Charlie Lockhart ahead of the Ohio State vs. Michigan State football matchup.

Have you ever wanted to know what your enemy thinks of you? While Michigan State respects the heck out of Ohio State, do the Buckeyes feel the same about the Spartans? The two teams are on different levels, but Michigan State has caused problems for the Buckeyes in recent years.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Scarlet and Game (FanSided’s Ohio State site) expert Charlie Lockhart ahead of Saturday’s big contest to talk about what he sees happening and the budding rivalry between the two programs.

Let’s take a look behind enemy lines.

Q: Since Michigan is always considered The Game for Ohio State, how do Ohio State fans view the yearly matchup with Michigan State? Are the two considered rivals or just another opponent?

Charlie Lockhart: Nothing will ever compare to “The Game” but Michigan State is definitely considered a rival. The Spartans have ruined the Buckeyes’ chances to play for the national title twice since Urban Meyer took over as head coach. Trust me, Buckeye fans certainly consider this a rivalry game and I’m sure Ohio State players and coaches do as well.

Q: What worries you the most about Michigan State?

CL: The physical play on both sides of the ball, and I was particularly impressed by the play of the back seven against Purdue’s talented receivers.

Q: Though the Buckeyes are 8-1 heading into this game and ranked No. 10 in the country, why do you think everyone has been so down on the team? Is there a reason to be concerned?

CL: Lack of physical play, giving up too many big plays on defense, too many penalties and questionable play calling.

Q: What are the Buckeyes’ weaknesses heading into Saturday?

CL: The back seven of the defense is undisciplined and Mark Dantonio always has a few misdirection plays up his sleeve.

Q: What are you most confident about heading into the game?

CL: Dwayne Haskins and the receiving corps. Also, I think the Buckeyes will put pressure on the quarterback.

Q: Michigan State’s defense has been one of the best in the Big Ten this season. Are you buying or selling this Michigan State defense and why?

CL: From what I have seen the Michigan State defense is for real.

Q: What do you see happening with a final score?

CL: I think there will be quite a few short drives and punts Saturday but each team will make enough big plays there will be quite a few points scored. I predict Ohio State will win 30-27. I can honestly say I’m not extremely confident with my prediction.
