3. Maryland has been inconsistent in Big Ten play

OK, the same could be said for the Spartans, but Michigan State has two more quality conference victories than the Terrapins.

Maryland has faced two ranked teams in Big Ten play, losing to both Michigan and Iowa by double-digits. In fact, the total score in those two contests was 65-21, showing that the Terrapins may not be all that close to contention in conference play.

Sure, the Terrapins beat the Texas Longhorns to start the season, but both teams were much different then.

Maryland has three Big Ten wins over Minnesota, Rutgers and Illinois who have a combined 8-16 overall record and 2-13 mark in conference action. That’s not exactly the most impressive mark, and this is the type of game in which Michigan State usually thrives.

The Terrapins have been inconsistent and Michigan State has two quality conference victories in three weeks. One team is riding high and the other doesn’t have a two-game winning streak since Week 1 and Week 2.

Advantage: Spartans.
