Michigan State football faces a tough test in Week 10 against the Maryland Terrapins on the road. Here’s why the Spartans will win.

The season is rolling right along and the Spartans face a tough Week 10 matchup against Maryland. Both teams boast a 5-3 record, but it could be argued that Michigan State has the upper hand because it doesn’t have nearly the same distractions that Maryland does.

In fact, Maryland head coach DJ Durkin, who had been out all season following an internal investigation because of a player’s death, was reinstated earlier in the week but after player, media and fan backlash, the university decided to fire him the next day. It’s been an interesting week for the Terrapins and you can bet the distractions have been deafening.

With the Spartans hitting the road to take on the Terrapins in the 10th week of the regular season, they’ll look to remain focused.

Here’s why the Spartans will come out on top and become bowl eligible in College Park.

5. Kasim Hill not a prolific passer

When you look at the numbers, you’d be led to believe that Michigan State’s passing defense is mediocre, at best. The Spartans allow about 275 yards per game through the air this season, but the yards per attempt have been impressive.

Not often does this team get burned deep, and that’ll continue against the Terrapins who average a mere 131 yards per game through the air, led by sophomore Kasim Hill.

To say Hill isn’t a prolific passer is an understatement. He has failed to reach the 100-yard mark through the air four times this season and he has yet to reach 300 yards. It’s a weakness that’ll play right into the Spartans’ favor.

Michigan State’s secondary is improving each week and facing Hill will give this group more confidence — and I’m predicting a few turnovers by the young quarterback.
