Saturday afternoon’s Michigan State vs Purdue game should be an interesting one for the Spartans, but can they pull out a big win?

It’s just been one of those seasons. Michigan State began the year with high hopes and despite playing a close one with Utah State, the Spartans showed flashes of brilliance in Week 1 and in parts of the Arizona State matchup in Week 2.

Since then, Michigan State has struggled to live up to its potential. Sure, the Spartans beat Central Michigan and Indiana to improve to 3-1, but a home loss to Northwestern along with a growing list of injured starters has marred the 2018 campaign. They did pull off a big win against No. 8 Penn State on the road, but struggled offensively against Michigan.

Purdue, on the other hand, started the season 0-3 with losses to Eastern Michigan, Northwestern and Missouri but the Boilermakers have since won four straight, including a trouncing of Ohio State, 49-20.

The Boilermakers are one of the nation’s hottest teams and they could give the Spartans problems on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. If Michigan State can find a way to win without Brian Lewerke, it’ll be one of Mark Dantonio’s best coaching jobs.
