Michigan State football marched into Bloomington and came away with a win over the Hoosiers. Let’s check the top plays from the Indiana win.

We are heading into Week 5 of the regular season, if you can believe that, and Michigan State holds a 2-1 record after marching into Bloomington and stealing a win from Indiana.

The Spartans knew it would be a tough road game, but following a bye week, Mark Dantonio had his troops ready to go. The offense didn’t look great, especially on the ground, but the run defense was the real star of the game, along with the pass rush.

This team still has plenty of work to do, but it covered the spread against the Hoosiers and heads into a Week 5 matchup with Central Michigan having some momentum on its side. That loss to Arizona State seems like centuries ago.

A win wouldn’t have been possible without breakout performances from Kenny Willekes and Jalen Nailor, but also some key plays.

Let’s take a look at the top plays from the win over Indiana in Week 4.

5. Matt Dotson’s rising touchdown

With a 14-7 lead and the first-half clock winding down, Brian Lewerke had to make something happen and he finally found his (future) star tight end Matt Dotson in the back of the end zone.

Why is this seemingly casual touchdown pass a top play? If you watch it closely, it was a great throw followed by an even better catch. Lewerke put it where only his tight end could get to it and Dotson showed enough concentration to make the grab and stay in bounds with a defender right on him.

This was a huge momentum-builder for the Spartans heading into halftime and Indiana couldn’t ever truly recover. The Spartans took a 21-7 lead into halftime and maintained at least a one-touchdown lead for the rest of the game.
