La’Darius Jefferson is just a freshman, but he could find himself in a prominent offensive role with Michigan State football in 2018.

What does it take to become a fan favorite at Michigan State? A player must showcase leadership skills, a will to win and intriguing skill set. La’Darius Jefferson could soon assume the role of fan favorite as he possesses each of those qualities, and it’s been evident during fall camp.

Despite getting to campus a after his fellow freshmen, Jefferson has been turning heads and even made an impression on starting senior running back LJ Scott.

An ‘urge to play’ immediately is never a bad thing, and he’ll get his wish soon enough. Though Michigan State is loaded at the skill positions on offense, Jefferson wants to see the field and it sounds like he’s willing to do just about anything to make that happen, including switching positions.

As a high school quarterback, Jefferson was offered by most schools to play that position at the next level, but the Spartans offered as an athlete. He jumped on the MSU offer and that doesn’t necessarily mean quarterback is out of the picture for his future.

However, his immediate future will be in the backfield. And with an open spot behind Scott, Jefferson could push Connor Heyward and Weston Bridges for playing time. He may also be one of the reasons sophomore back Austin Andrews decided to transfer.

While no one will know his role until the opener against Utah State, it’s safe to assume we will see plenty of Jefferson on offense — in multiple capacities.
