Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio has one of the most stoic personalities in the sport, but even he can have fun sometimes.

Team chemistry is at an all-time high, the Spartans return one of the best young teams in college football and Mark Dantonio is having some fun.

No, that wasn’t a typo; Michigan State’s stoic leader went viral on Sunday when the Spartans’ Twitter account posted a video of him letting his team out early — by accident.

Every athlete loves the magic words “we’re done for the day” but Dantonio was addressing his players in a meeting after Saturday’s scrimmage and accidentally muttered those words. The players were bananas at the thought of getting out early on a Saturday, but he calmed them down only to let them know he misspoke. What happened next was nothing short of fantastic.

How do you build team chemistry? You show a personable, fun side every now and again. Dantonio seems like a guy who rarely smiles, but even this situation made him smirk.

Not often do you see a coach make a mistake, such as telling his team that they’re getting out earlier than expected, and then stick with it because he’s “a man of my word”.

Current and former Michigan State players took to Twitter to praise the head coach’s actions.

If this doesn’t make young recruits want to play for the Spartans, I’m not sure what will. Behind the scenes, Dantonio has a great relationship with his players, and it’s for reasons such as this video.
