It’s only August, but Michigan State football’s Darrell Stewart Jr. may already have the catch of the year in the weekend’s scrimmage.

Michigan State has one of the top receiving corps in the country and potential a top-two unit in the Big Ten with guys like Cody White and Felton Davis III catching everything thrown their way, but people often forget Darrell Stewart Jr. had over 800 yards of total offense in 2017.

The junior receiver is a dynamic threat who can catch a short pass and make things happen with the ball in his hands or he can take a reverse to the house.

Stewart Jr. showed in 2017 that he can make some eye-popping catches as well. He has sticky hands and his big catch against Michigan in the first half to give the Spartans good field positions was a prime example.

In Saturday’s scrimmage, Stewart Jr. made an even better catch which may go down as the snag of the season for the green and white — and it’s only August.

Michigan State’s closed scrimmages are usually low-key and blacked out to the media, but this was one of those plays that begged to be shared.

If you look closely, David Dowell looks to have made a great play, swatting the ball from Stewart Jr.’s grasp, but one hand is able to grab the ball as the other flailed off to the side. It almost looks like a bad Madden glitch, but it just so happens to be an unbelievable catch.

No, it doesn’t count, but it had Brian Lewerke raving.

If this catch is any indication, Stewart Jr. is in for a big season with the Spartans.
