Former Michigan State football star Jack Allen was originally signed by the Saints out of college but the Chicago Bears have recently inked a deal.

Jack Allen was one of a kind. He was a hard-nosed workaholic who never settled for just being “good enough”, rather wanted to be the best at his position and nearly won the Rimington Trophy, given to the best center in college football — he finished second in 2015.

The former All-American looked like a lock to be selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, but slipped through the cracks, most likely because of his size, and went undrafted, eventually signing with the New Orleans Saints.

That’s where he spent his last couple of years before this offseason. Now a free agent again, Allen was hoping to find a home before the start of the 2018 season, and he finally did just that.

The 6-foot-1, 296-pound center is returning home to play for the Chicago Bears, likely a team he grew up watching as a kid from Hinsdale, Ill. He’ll get to have family and friends at each game and it could help his transition from being a scout team player to a serious contributor.

It’s unclear whether he’s going to make that active roster, but he has his foot in the door and there’s no doubt he has the potential to make some noise in training camp.
