Michigan State football may be bringing back Jon Reschke and despite the doubts, Mark Dantonio is handling the situation correctly.

Just over a year ago, Jon Reschke was kicked off Michigan State’s football team for using an insensitive racial comment when speaking about a teammate. Mark Dantonio showed no tolerance and had the support of his team when letting him go.

Heading into the 2018 season, Reschke may be close to re-joining the team, also with the team’s support.

Dantonio wouldn’t allow Reschke to re-join the team if he knew guys weren’t on board with it and he’s handling the situation correctly, asking for the approval of his African American players.

While some may see this as a cop out, allowing Reschke back, he’s doing so with the hope that the former highly-touted linebacker has changed for the better. What he said is unforgivable and Dantonio knows that, but as long as those offended by his verbal altercation are willing to look past that and welcome him back as a teammate, the team can move forward with him.

No, the Spartans don’t need Reschke, as evidenced by the 10-3 season they had without him, but Dantonio isn’t going to hand him a scholarship without putting him to work.

In fact, he’s not going to hand him a scholarship at all.

The fact that he’s not allowing him to come back to the team without earning that jersey as well as denying a scholarship at any point is telling of the man’s character.
