Michigan State football players received their Holiday Bowl champion rings on Friday and, per tradition, they trolled Michigan with the 2017 score.

If there’s one thing Mark Dantonio loves, it’s tradition. The 11th-year head coach has done a fantastic job of keeping tradition alive at Michigan State and it has shown through with a successful stretch, winning 100 games during his time in East Lansing.

One tradition that Dantonio is trying to hold on to is putting the annual score of the Michigan vs. Michigan State game on the team’s bowl rings.

This is something he implemented back with the Cotton Bowl rings.

Yes, that’s the Michigan vs. Michigan State score from the 2014 season on the Cotton Bowl ring, and it’s a tradition the head coach has continued this time around with the 2017 Holiday Bowl champion rings.

Josiah Scott shared his bling on Twitter Friday afternoon, and the internet loved it.

OK, so maybe not everyone loved it. Michigan fans were quick to point out that this is a ‘little brother’ move just like they did three years ago with the Cotton Bowl rings.

Trolling is part of the rivalry and it’s been going back and forth for years, but that’s what makes the Michigan versus Michigan State trash talk so enjoyable. Fans from both sides partake and it’s always settled on the field every fall — until the end of the season, at least.
