Michigan State got a huge recruit — literally — in the 2018 class with the addition of James Ohonba. He has all the physical gifts to be a prime-time player.

Three-star offensive tackle James Ohonba is 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 345 pounds — he is quite the physical presence. He had scholarships from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Clemson, Michigan, USC, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Despite his lofty weight, Ohonba his quite nimble and quick on his feet. His play is reminiscent of current Spartan guard Kevin Jarvis. Both agile like cats yet combined with the power of a lion.

The Georgia-native is going to be a force on the Spartan offensive line for years to come. He explodes out of his stance and blocks to the whistle. He is the type of signee that Michigan State has missed out on in years past. To bring him in speaks to the great job the coaching did in evaluating and maintaining that relationship. In my opinion, going forward the Spartan offensive line will be a strength of this team.

Michigan State will need Ohonba especially if they are going to compete with the likes of Penn State and Ohio State for the Big Ten East division title. I would write Michigan, but they have finished third twice and fourth most recently.

What hs impressed me most about Ohonba is his hustle. Sometimes with big-time recruits there can be a complacency, but not with Ohonba. He has a motor on him, which will serve him well. Mark Dantonio has a budding star right here.
