Javez Alexander was a quarterback who is now an incoming wide receiver for Michigan State’s class of 2018. He’s an intriguing prospect with huge upside.

Javez Alexander is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound product out of Sandusky, Ohio, where he played quarterback. This is not the first time coach Mark Dantonio has taken a player and given them a completely different role.

Jeremy Langford was a wide receiver turned defensive back turned running back where he finally excelled. Keshawn Martin was a high school quarterback who played wide receiver for the green and white.

Keith Nichol will forever be remembered not as the four-star quarterback coming out of high school and transfer from Oklahoma, but the player catching Kirk Cousins’ Hail Mary pass against Wisconsin. Dantonio has an eye for talent and positioning players for success.

Alexander possesses the athleticism and speed needed to be a wide receiver. Depending upon how he adjusts to the new position, he will most likely redshirt his first year providing critical depth for the Spartans. He held offers to play quarterback at Bowling Green and Air Force but the opportunity to become a Spartan was too big to pass up.

In a day and age where players want to play now and not compete for time, Alexander is a huge get for MSU. It will take him time to grow and learn the position, however, he has the football IQ and acumen to be special. As a quarterback, he had 999 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns his junior year. He is definitely an explosive player who knows what to do with the pigskin in his hands.
