Michigan State football lost another key player to transfer as sophomore receiver Trishton Jackson announced he’s leaving the program.

Going from potential breakout star to lightly-used receiver in the matter of a few months had to have been difficult for sophomore receiver Trishton Jackson, but Michigan State happened to be loaded at the position.

Jackson knew that he’d have to fight for targets in the coming year as a junior for the Spartans, but he decided that it’d be best for him to move on from the program and look to be a top target elsewhere.

The sophomore from West Bloomfield, Mich., announced Friday evening via Twitter that he’d be leaving the program.

Jackson is the second receiver to leave Michigan State this week as Hunter Rison announced his transfer earlier on. This departure is tough for the Spartans to swallow because it looked like Jackson would be a star in the offense after the spring game.

How does this loss affect Michigan State and how will the Spartans replace him? Luckily the depth at receiver is steep.

Felton Davis III will return as the unit’s No. 1 receiver in 2018 and he will be followed up by Cody White and Darrell Stewart Jr. After that, it could be a dogfight for targets as guys like Cam Chambers, C.J. Hayes and Laress Nelson could have larger roles.

On top of that, the Spartans will have some guys coming in with the 2018 class that could help and two more recruits who have yet to commit but who are high on the priority list — Tommy Bush and Jalen Nailor. Depth at receiver won’t be an issue even after losing Jackson, but it’s tough to see a promising talent go.
