The 2017 season is in the books for Michigan State football and here are the five most memorable moments of the year.

It’s hard to believe football season is over. Michigan State flipped the script, going from 3-9 in 2016 to 10-3 in 2017, silencing all the doubters who claimed the Spartans’ run was over. Mark Dantonio doesn’t care about doubters, though, as they just fuel the fire.

This young team came out hungry and ready to compete in September and never let up. Along the way, the Spartans picked up wins against Michigan and Penn State but dropped tough ones to Notre Dame, Northwestern and Ohio State.

The future in East Lansing is bright, but before we move on, it’s time to reflect on just how special of a year 2017 was for this program.

Let’s take a look at the most memorable moments from Michigan State’s 2017 calendar year on the gridiron. Can you guess what No. 1 is?

5. Tyson Smith’s pick-six

Some people actually forgot this happened, but not those who follow the story of Tyson Smith. The young cornerback suffered a stroke in 2016 and doctors said that he may never play football again. He responded to that by not only showing that he can re-join the team and lead a normal life, but also having an impact on the Spartans in 2017.

That started right away as the junior opened the season with a bang. Bowling Green was first up on the schedule and you can bet Smith had this game circled on his calendar.

To show that he was back and ready to make an impression on the Spartans’ season, he picked off a pass and returned it all the way for a touchdown.

Hollywood couldn’t have written a better story for the young cornerback and it was a feel-good moment for Spartan Nation as Smith was filled with emotion.
