Former Michigan State basketball star Gary Harris had himself a night for the Denver Nuggets, posting a career-high against the Celtics.

Gary Harris was one of the best recruits in the Tom Izzo era at Michigan State and he lived up to expectations. He averaged 14.9 points in his two years in the green and white and shot a combined 38 percent from 3-point range.

Although he hurt his stock slightly by coming back for his sophomore year, the shooting guard from Fishers, Ind., was still drafted in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. However, he was traded on draft night to the Nuggets.

Imagine if he had been retained by the Bulls, he’d be teammates with Denzel Valentine and those two could form a solid duo in the Windy City.

Harris has been excelling with the Nuggets, though. It took time as he averaged just 3.1 points in 13 minutes during his rookie year and then saw his production quadruple in his second season. His numbers have improved each year and he currently averages 15.9 points, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 39 percent from deep.

On Wednesday night, Harris did something he hadn’t done in his entire career with Denver and that was approach the 40-point mark. He finished with 36 points on 16-of-25 shooting. Take a look at just how impressive his career-high looked:

Harris is quickly becoming a star in the NBA on an up-and-coming team and that’s why he was inked to a big deal in the offseason.
