We all know Michigan State basketball fans are some of the best in the country, but they were left out of FanSided’s Fandom 250 — ranking the top fan bases.

The Izzone is one of the greatest college basketball traditions out there. Michigan State has been home to the famed student section ever since Tom Izzo took over in the mid-1990s and it has spread like wildfire.

Michigan State students from the past couple of decades have lined up in the freezing cold, hoping to get lower bowl seats. Moreover, the Izzone Campout takes place for those same students looking for full-time lower bowl seats for an entire season and the entire Michigan State basketball team, including Izzo, attends and hangs with the “campers” all night.

Yes, Michigan State basketball fans are extremely dedicated and some of the best in all of sports.

However, the Fandom 250 for the 2017 calendar year didn’t agree, leaving Michigan State basketball, and football, fans out completely.

The top 250 fan bases, according to FanSided’s Fandom rankings didn’t include the Spartans in any sport and had 24 different colleges included. The No. 1 fan base on that list was Ohio State followed by Penn State at No. 110, Michigan at No. 114, Wisconsin at No. 138 and Nebraska at No. 232 to round out Big Ten teams.

Michigan State did make the list last year, however, even though the basketball team was coming off a first-round upset by Middle Tennessee in the previous NCAA Tournament and the football team had gone just 3-9.
