Michigan State Basketball: Report card for win over Southern Utah
Rebounding: B-
Michigan State out-rebounded yet another opponent by double-digits. Although there was a 15-rebound difference between Michigan State and Southern Utah, that’s exactly how it should have been. Once again, boxing out was an issue as the Thunderbirds snagged 11 offensive rebounds.
Although the Spartans finished with 49 to Southern Utah’s 34, it’s still something that needs to be addressed as they move throughout the remainder of conference play. The only reason Michigan State gets a B- grade is because it is capable of a much better performance on the glass.
Individually, there were a couple of Spartans who excelled. In fact, Jaren Jackson Jr. had 13 boards, Miles Bridges finished with 11 and Nick Ward had six. That’s what you want to see from that trio, but there’s still a problem with allowing offensive rebounds.
On top of that, Southern Utah was one of the worst rebounding teams in the country heading into Saturday night’s matchup, so out-rebounding the Thunderbirds by 15 isn’t all that impressive.
