Saturday’s Michigan State vs Rutgers game is a rematch from last season in which the Spartans won 49-0 during a forgettable year.

Just a season ago, Michigan State was searching for any sort of momentum and then Rutgers came to town. The Spartans had just two wins in mid-November, but the Scarlet Knights accounted for the third in blowout fashion, 49-0.

So far this season, Rutgers has been handled by top-tier Big Ten teams and the Spartans are hoping that continues on Saturday. Brian Lewerke will look to get back on track against Rutgers after struggling against Ohio State and then abandoning the pass in the poor weather against Maryland.

LJ Scott, too, is looking to have a big game against a mediocre run defense. He finished with his second 100-yard performance of the season against Maryland in Week 12 and will look for No. 3, and two in a row, against the Scarlet Knights Saturday. This is a good opportunity for a confidence-builder.

The Scarlet Knights aren’t exactly pushovers this season, though, and Mark Dantonio knows that. His guys will be prepared for the Scarlet Knights’ best shot as they have played some teams in the Big Ten tougher than normal in 2017.
